DJI Raises Bar For Aerial Imaging With The Inspire 2 & Phantom 4 Pro

DJI, the world leader in unmanned aerial technology, Tuesday introduced two new drones that raise the bar for professional imaging: Inspire 2, the best ready-to-fly platform for high-end film and video creators, and Phantom 4 Pro, the smartest and most creative flying camera of its size.

“Professional filmmakers and photographers always push to create images that have never been seen before, and DJI never stops trying to give them the tools to achieve their vision,” said DJI CEO and Founder Frank Wang. “Our newest flight platforms and stabilized aerial cameras are smarter, faster and more powerful than ever before. We can’t wait to see how creators use Inspire 2 and Phantom 4 Pro to capture dazzling images.”

Inspire 2

Advanced Imaging for Professional Results

Inspire 2 offers powerful capabilities and is easy to operate. The nimble new magnesium-aluminum alloy body increases stiffness while lowering weight. It has a top speed of 67 mph and takes only 4 seconds to accelerate to 50 mph. With the new dual battery system, flight time is up to 27 minutes. A new forward-facing camera offers the pilot the best flight view for operating the master controller, while the camera operator receives a separate feed from the professional Zenmuse camera mounted on the main gimbal. The Inspire 2 supports the brand-new Zenmuse X4S and X5S cameras and will support additional cameras in the future.

An entirely new image processing system, called CineCore 2.0, is embedded into the airframe, which allows processing large files faster than ever before. Inspire 2 captures 5.2K video at 4.2 Gbps for Adobe CinemaDNG RAW videos and leverages a newly-designed, fast CINESSD storage for a smooth work experience. A variety of video compression formats are supported by CineCore 2.0, including Adobe CinemaDNG, Apple ProRes 422 HQ (5.2K, 4K) and ProRes 4444 XQ (4K), H.264, and H.265. When recording 4K video in H.264 and H.265, the birate is up to 100Mbps.

Inspire 2 offers professional capability and control suitable for many scenarios. With optional high-altitude propellers, Inspire 2 can reach a maximum service ceiling of 16,404 feet above sea level, and the self-heating dual battery redundancy system maintains good performance of the battery to -4 degrees Fahrenheit. Through an optimized mode, Inspire 2 streams smooth video at the widely used 1080i50/720p60 broadcast standard. Enhanced Lightbridge video transmission makes smoother HDMI video possible.

High Performance and Professional Reliability

The dual-battery system ensures that if one battery fails during a flight, the other will be able to provide power for a safe return to home. Stereo vision sensors have been included on the front and bottom of Inspire 2 for obstacle detection, and upward facing infrared sensors on top of the aircraft add protection when flying in enclosed spaces.

The redesigned propulsion system can safely carry Inspire 2 through incredible vertical camera moves, climbing at almost 20 feet/second and descending at almost 30 feet/second. Redundant systems provide reliability for the IMU, barometer, electronic speed controller communication and satellite navigation modules. The master and slave controller range now extends to 328 feet and users can switch between 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz frequencies to cut through any noise for greater signal stability.

Creative Freedom

Inspire 2’s new intelligent flight modes expand DJI’s computer vision technology to safely fly routes that give creators new ways to capture what they envision. Spotlight Pro Mode locks onto a subject during flight while the aircraft flies freely in another direction – and automatically rotates the aircraft to stay on the shot if the gimbal reaches its rotational limit. The forward-facing camera offers TapFly, which directs Inspire 2 to any point on the screen while avoiding obstacles along the way. ActiveTrack recognizes common subjects such as people, cars and animals, sending Inspire 2 to follow behind, lead in front, circle above or track alongside while always flying forward, ensuring the forward-facing obstacle sensing system keeps the aircraft safe.

New Zenmuse Cameras

DJI is enhancing the imaging potential of the Inspire 2 by expanding its line of interchangeable Zenmuse cameras, which are designed for aerial imaging and communicate directly with the aircraft’s gimbal and flight controllers. For situations that require a balance between weight and image quality, the new Zenmuse X4S has a 1-inch, 20-megapixel sensor with 11.6 stops of dynamic range and a 24 mm equivalent focal length. The Zenmuse X4S offers aperture control (f2.8-11) and a mechanical shutter that cancels rolling shutter distortion. The new Zenmuse X5S has a larger Micro Four Thirds sensor with 20.8 megapixels and an incredible 12.8 stops of dynamic range. The Zenmuse X5S camera now supports 8 lenses from wide angles to zooms. It shoots 20fps continuous burst DNG RAW (20.8 MP). In the future, a handheld mount will be available for the Zenmuse X4S and X5S cameras, bringing those cameras down to the ground for more flexible filmmaking.

Professional Accessories to Enhance Performance

A series of powerful DJI accessories will meet the needs of operators under various filming conditions. DJI Focus, a battery charging station, DJI CINESSD, CINESSD station and other optional accessories are available.

An optional DJI Crystalsky high-brightness IPS monitor features an ultra-bright screen that is clearly visible in direct sunlight and ideal for outdoor shooting. It comes in 5.5-inch and 7.85-inch sizes, with the highest brightness up to 1000 cd/m2 and 2000 cd/m2 respectively, and its dedicated system reduces video transmission latency. Dual Micro-SD Card slots within the screen make it easy to back up footage and can also be used to transfer and play back files. It operates in extreme temperature conditions from -4 degrees to 104 degrees Fahrenheit.

Phantom 4 Pro

Professional Imaging

Phantom 4 Pro offers a powerful imaging system for professional photo and video creators as well as non-professionals who demand excellence from the camera and platform they use to pursue their creative visions. The camera now packs a 1-inch 20-megapixel sensor, and almost 12 stops of dynamic range bring out levels of detail and low-light performance unprecedented in a flying camera of this size. Its mechanical shutter eliminates rolling shutter distortion in fast-moving scenes. Phantom 4 Pro can capture slow-motion 4K video up to 60 fps at a maximum bitrate of 100 mbps. In addition, the Phantom 4 Pro offers H.265 video compression, which substantially improves video quality at the same bitrate.

Reliable with Enhanced FlightAutonomy System

Phantom 4 Pro builds on DJI’s original obstacle avoidance system with FlightAutonomy – three sets of visual systems that build a 3D map of obstacles in front, behind and below the aircraft, as well as infrared sensing systems on both sides. FlightAutonomy can position, navigate and plan routes for Phantom 4 Pro, enabling it to avoid obstacles in a sensing range up to 98 feet at front and rear, even in complex 3D environments. When returning to home and tapping to initiate auto takeoff or landing, the Landing Protection function is able to detect and help avoid landing on uneven ground or water. Phantom 4 Pro has high-performance battery technology that provides up to 30 minutes of flight time. The Phantom 4 Pro flies at 31 mph in P mode with obstacle avoidance in effect, and has a 45 mph top speed in sport mode.

Professional Control with New Remote Controller

Phantom 4 Pro’s revolutionary new compact remote controller comes with an optional high luminance display, providing a clear and vivid live HD view from the main camera as well as essential telemetry data, even in direct sunlight. The aircraft will automatically choose between 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz once powering on to gain a clear signal in areas with high radio interference. The new controller has a built-in GPS, compass, Micro-SD card slot and HDMI port.

Intelligent Flight

New intelligent flight modes make Phantom 4 Pro the smartest flying camera of its size, opening new vistas for creators, such as the new Draw Mode that allows operators to draw lines on the controller display and direct the Phantom 4 Pro to fly that route.

ActiveTrack recognizes common subjects such as people and bikes, then follows them from any angle while maintaining camera focus, and includes three new modes – New Circle, Profile and Spotlight.

Narrow sensing enhances obstacle avoidance sensitivity so the aircraft can fly through complex environments like narrow doorways. TapFly now works backwards and comes with a new Free mode that allows a pilot to set the direction of flight, turn the Phantom 4 Pro or tilt the gimbal without changing the direction of flight. With the new AR Route feature, operators will be able to tell the flight route on the screen.
As an additional safety feature, within a minute of losing GPS signal, the aircraft will automatically return to the last connected position and hover there precisely to wait for the pilot’s command. With the enhanced return to home function, the aircraft knows where it should be going from up to 984 feet away and avoids obstacles along the route.

Price and Availability

Phantom 4 Pro’s U.S. retail price is $1,499 with a standard controller. The Phantom 4 Pro+, which includes a Phantom 4 Pro aircraft, and a high luminance display remote controller, will be available at $1,799. GoPro HERO 5 Leaked In GoPro App How-To Video

It’s not glamorous, but the first glimpse we get of the long-awaited GoPro Hero 5 may be this super short how-to video that shows you how to connect the unreleased action cam to your smartphone. Still, even at just 9 seconds, there’s plenty to be gleaned by this “sneak peek.”

GoPro tinkerer Konrad Iturbe discovered the video buried inside the GoPro Android app APK. The Verge was able to find the same file, titled “add_camera_hero5.mp4.” giving us hope that this is a legitimate leak and not something made up by a diligent troll.

From the short glimpse you can glean a few things: (1) The next GoPro has rounded edges and a raised record button; (2) The whole back of the camera is a touchscreen, no more BUS interface to attach accessories through, giving credence to the rumor that the Hero 5 may be waterproof out of the box; and (3) The more user-friendly touchscreen menu includes something called “GoPro Sniper,” a mysterious new option nobody seems to know anything about.

What else do you see from the video? Did you notice other features, options, or design queues can in the 9-second clip that we missed? Let us know in the comments. GoPro is expected to release the Hero 5 in time for the Holidays, but in the meantime this little video is all the “legitimate” information we have.

Amazon Green Monday 2015 'Mystery Digital Camera' Deal: Canon EOS Rebel SL1?

Today for Green Monday, Amazon has a bunch of deals on cameras, but none is more enticing than the 'Mystery Digital Camera' Deal. This deal saves you $101 on a $500 digital camera (20%), however, the catch is that Amazon doesn't actually reveal what camera it is, instead just showing a picture of a box.

Why I think it's the Canon SL1?

The first reason that leads me to believe that the mystery camera is the Canon SL1 is the cryptic message Amazon wrote in the description:
We've got a secret deal today...can't say much now....will provide more hints later...however, customers loved when we ran a similar deal on this product earlier this year.
Now they did something like this during the underwhelming event which was PrimeDay back in July, offering what turned out to be the Canon EOS Rebel SL1 for $413 (marked down from its MSRP of $500).

Besides that, a couple of key specs on the page seem to point conclusively to the Canon SL1. Amazon includes a review from DP Review which states (among other things) that the camera has an

Maker of Polaroid Cube Sues GoPro over HERO4 Session

The GoPro Hero4 Session looks like the Polaroid Cube. It’s hard to deny otherwise. In the world of action cameras, these two cameras look like twins separated at birth where one was raised by a fun-loving family that toured in a VW Microbus and the other sent away to a prep school where athletics and fraternal orders were stressed.

The maker of the Polaroid Cube clearly feels something similar as C&A Marketing filed a lawsuit against GoPro for illegally copying the design of the Cube. The Cube was originally released in 2014. C&A Marketing obtained the patent in May 2015, two months before the release of the GoPro Hero4 Session.

GoPro was issued several European Union patents for the Session and an US Patent for the Session’s case in March. It says that it applied for another U.S. patent for the Session last year.

Clones are something that GoPro itself has contended with for years. Amazon and ebay are filled with cameras that look very similar to GoPro cameras including the Hero4 Session. Other major

GoPro HERO 5 Launch Date To Be Pushed Back As The Company Promises 'Unprecedented Upgrades'

GoPro Hero 5 was set to be launched on October 5, but the American tech company specializing on camcorder and videography equipment decided to push it back to next year in order to allow for unprecedented upgrades to the device, reports Venture Capital Post.

Apparently, GoPro wants to live up to the hype that the Hero 5 has established since late last year. The company wants the device to become the most powerful videography equipment in the world upon its roll out by next year.

While others may think of it as a lofty ambition, it is actually a major goal for GoPro because the company is optimistic that it can meet consumer expectations given its credentials with the launch of the groundbreaking GoPro Hero camcorders in the past couple of years.

GoPro is also determined to come up with a new video camera that will surpass the features and specifications of its current model, the GoPro Hero 4, according to Realty Today.

Business decision

The delay in the release of the device may also be a business decision on the manufacturer’s part since releasing the GoPro Hero 5 barely a year after the GoPro Hero 4 made it to the market will really put the clamps on its predecessor considering the initial reports that the latter device would come out with practically the same price as the older gadget.

That would sure to draw buyers away from the old and into the new, which would not make any business sense at all for GoPro.

New GoPro 5 Rumors, Specs & Release Date Update: 8K Recording and Bigger Battery?

There is growing speculation that GoPro will launch Hero 5 with 8K resolution in October

GoPro Inc. has already announced its upcoming revolutionary camera HERO 5 that is speculated to have features such as 8K resolution and 60mm underwater capacity. But the Californian camera maker has not provided any deadline for the roll out nor has it previewed any new features that will make their way into the latest flagship device.

GoPro cameras have the reputation to function in extreme conditions that makes the products unique. The company has been immensely successful with its HERO line and seems to be working hard to maintain its reputation by hitting the market with a better version.

However, there have been numerous speculations about the HERO 5 in the market. Many believe that the new camera will come with extended battery life as it will pack a 2,800 mAh battery as compared to a 1,160 mAh battery in the previous version. Another rumor suggests a dual-lens device supported with 3D imaging. It is also said that the camera can shoot 4K videos at around 60 frames per second. If true, this feature can provide a competitive edge to the company over competitors like Xiaomi and Sony.

GoPro’s current flagship, Hero 4, provides unique functionality such as high-resolution 4K videos. But competitors are fast catching up; Sony and other camera makers have launched their own cheaper action cameras to snag a share in the market. However, GoPro is currently unhindered by these attempts as its revenue soared 75% YoY in the December quarter.

Many experts have speculated that GoPro might launch HERO 5 in October as the market will have time to cool down after being overrun with cheaper versions. Consequently, users will pay more attention to the new and improved features of HERO 5.

GoPro Hero 5 Release Date, Specs & Features: Early Camera Rumors Ahead Of October Launch

Most rumors about the upcoming GoPro Hero 5 are currently fuelled by the popularity of the GoPro Hero 4 camera that was released last year and will soon became as popular as earlier models. As many new companies enter the market for action cameras, GoPro has managed to successfully hold them off and outsell its competition, shipping about 2.4 million units of the GoPro Hero 4 last year.

This year, GoPro looks set to improve on the Hero 4 in many ways and even bring out new technology in the GoPro Hero 5. One major rumor surrounding the forthcoming new camera, which is expected to be launched sometime in October, is that GoPro will finally increase the frames per second and bring it up to 60 from the current 30 fps on the GoPro Hero 4. If this happens, it will allow users to shoot 4K videos at 60 fps and thereby address an issue that is currently bugging users of the GoPro Hero 4.

There are also rumors that GoPro also has a camera in the works capable of recording 8K videos. If the GoPro Hero 5 has this ability, it will be released at a time when televisions will be available to play back these high definition videos.

There are also indications that GoPro is going to be creating a camera that can be taken to a depth of 60 feet underwater – an improvement over the 30 feet that the current model is capable of. If this is true, the GoPro Hero 5 will become a strong favorite among divers who already use the camera extensively.

GoPro has also filed a patent which points towards an upcoming camera having a door for a battery at its rear and more buttons and an LED indicator in the front. The patent which many have associated with GoPro Hero 5 has also revealed the presence of a multiple microphones within the camera which point towards recording with surround sound.

The Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II takes high-resolution imaging to a whole new level. In addition to the exceptional 16-megapixel stills you've come to expect from OM-D, the E-M5 Mark II captures 40-megapixel images using an innovative pixel-shift technique that is facilitated by the voice-coil motor IS unit. The 40-Megapixel High-Res Shot mode captures eight sequential images, moving the sensor by 0.5-pixel steps between each shot. Then, the E-M5 Mark II compiles those images to produce a super-high resolution shot that rivals those captured with a 40-megapixel full-frame camera.
A tripod and a high-resolution M.ZUIKO DIGITAL PRO or M.ZUIKO Premium lens are recommended to use the 40-Megapixel High-Res Shot mode, which captures eight shots over a period of one second1. Another two seconds are required to compile the final image. Images can be captured at up to f/8 with a shutter speed of up to eight seconds and a sensitivity of up to ISO 1600. When shooting in RAW+JPEG mode, the camera will save a 40M JPEG file, a 64M RAW (ORF) file and a 16M RAW (ORI) file. 64M RAW images may be processed using Photoshop CS4 and later with a required plug-in.

OM-D Movie
The OM-D E-M5 Mark II's advanced video features enable photographers to capture cinema-quality movies from the palm of their hand. The camera's 5-axis image stabilization compensates for even the slightest movement, allowing the camera to capture stable footage without the use of a sophisticated and expensive stabilization rig, or even a tripod, letting users shoot in environments where adding heavy equipment may not be practical. The mechanical IS unit can also work in concert with Electronic Stabilization if desired.

Portability and Build
The OM-D E-M5 Mark II features a dust proof, splash proof body, that, when properly sealed and paired with select M.ZUIKO DIGITAL lenses, can even be used in the rain. Olympus' renowned Supersonic Wave Filter technology uses super high speed frequency movement to shake any dust or debris off the sensor, eliminating dust marks that irreparably spoil images. Two body colors are available: a luxurious black with texture casting, and a bright, gorgeous silver. The camera includes machined metal dials, an extended grip and a lowered center of gravity that makes the OM-D E-M5 Mark II comfortable to hold in a variety of positions. The camera (body only) weighs just 417 grams, or 14.7 ounces, making it one of the lightest models in its class.
Accessories
The OM-D E-M5 Mark II includes a dustproof and splashproof bundled flash, the FL-LM3, with Guide Number 9 (at ISO 100) and tilt and swivel positioning, enabling users to light subjects directly or by bouncing the flash off of a ceiling or wall.
The HLD-8 is a dustproof and splashproof power battery holder for exclusive use with the OM-D E-M5 Mark II, which enhances both the camera grip and power supply. The HLD-8G Non-powered Grip pairs a substantial camera grip with a headphone jack for monitoring audio during video capture, and an HLD-6P Power Grip, which can attach directly to the camera or to the HLD-8G, provides additional battery power for extended shoots. Because the grip (HLD-8G) and battery holder (HLD-6P) can be separated, the grip can be used alone when necessary. The HLD-6P battery holder is the same as the HLD-6 which was previously designed for the OM-D E-M5. The ECG-2 Metal External Grip can be attached to and removed from a tripod easily, and includes a battery pass-through for changing batteries without removing the grip.
An EE-1 External Dot Sight, which is compatible with any camera with a hot shoe, makes it easier to frame subjects during super-telephoto shooting An EP-16 Large Eyecup is also available, which blocks sunlight, making the electronic viewfinder easier to use. Establishing new standards for full-frame DSLRs
Setting a new benchmark for full-frame cameras, the EOS 5DS and EOS 5DS R combine fast, instinctive DSLR handling with the newly-developed 50.6MP CMOS sensor, providing the flexibility to shoot a wide range of scenes and subjects, making it ideal for large format mediums, such as advertising billboards and magazine covers, where every pixel matters. The sensor’s advanced architecture provides

ISO 100-6400 sensitivity, further expandable to 50-12800, ensuring high quality images with low noise, accurate colours and wide dynamic range. For added flexibility, the cameras’ resolution enables three new in-camera crop shooting modes–1.3x, 1.6x and 1:1. Visible through the viewfinder, the crop modes deliver outstanding results, with stills at 19 MP even when cropped to 1.6x. Built to withstand the most demanding shoots, the EOS 5DS and EOS 5DS R’s dual DIGIC 6 processors provide the rapid performance and responsiveness required to deliver first-class images with exceptional colour reproduction. Both processors are designed to comfortably manage huge levels of image data from the 50.6MP sensor, whilst simultaneously reducing image noise and providing the freedom to shoot at five frames per second.

Automatically exceptional
Created to ensure every detail of your exquisite landscape or high-fashion studio shoot is in focus, the EOS 5DS and EOS 5DS R feature an advanced 61-point AF system, with 41 cross-type points, delivering incredible levels of image sharpness and accuracy across the frame. Both cameras comfortably maintain focus with moving subjects, using EOS Intelligent Tracking and Recognition AF (iTR) to track both faces and colour. To reduce image blur, Canon’s Mirror Vibration Control System uses cams to drive the cameras’ mirror up and down in a highly controlled fashion, avoiding all sudden stops and softening the shutter-release sound. Additionally, the EOS 5DS and EOS 5DS R’s 150k pixel RGB+IR metering sensor with Flicker Detection ensures images can be captured with consistent and accurate exposures under varying lighting scenarios, including florescent.

Incredible detail and unrestricted creativity
Putting unrivalled image quality at your fingertips, the EOS 5DS and EOS 5DS R include a number of customisable modes and settings to ensure stunning results every time. A new Fine Detail Picture Style maximises the level of detail that can be achieved from the sensor, enabling advanced sharpness adjustment without the need for edit ing software. Popular creative modes, including Multiple Exposure and HDR, provide instant, in-camera creativity, while a built-in timer allows you to shoot over long periods and create stunning time lapse videos, without being tied to the camera or needing advanced software and excessive kit.

First-class professional construction, customisable features
The EOS 5DS and EOS 5DS R have been expertly constructed to allow you to operate quickly, regardless of the environment you’re shooting in. The 100% viewfinder with electronic overlay makes framing vital shots easy and can be customised to your preferred style. The large, 8.11cm (3.2”) Clear View II LCD screen, with an anti-reflective structure, minimises reflection or glare when reviewing shots and also acts as a visual and accessible dashboard of the most commonly used settings. The cameras’ new Custom Quick Control screen means that the type, size and position of icons are also easily customisable to the user or shooting scenario. Both cameras utilise Canon’s iconic design DNA–a highly durable body constructed from high-grade magnesium alloy to provide weather resilient shooting – ideal for landscape photographers who are dedicated to getting the perfect shot, whatever the weather.

EOS 5DS R: Engineered for the ultimate in DSLR image quality
When nothing but the absolute maximum level of detail possible will do, the EOS 5DS R features a low pass cancellation filter to ensure the sharpest possible results. Great for landscape photographers, where patterns are very often organic, the camera’s low pass cancellation filter produces the stunning level of detail required to turn a great shot into an incredible shot.

Optical Expertise: Introducing the EF 11-24mm f/4L USM
The EOS 5DS and EOS 5DS R are compatible with Canon’s extensive EF lens range, spanning 71 models(2). Today Canon unveils the world’s widest-angle rectilinear zoom lens (1), the EF 11-24mm f/4L USM. Perfect for photographers shooting landscape and architecture, the EF 11-24mm f/4L USM is designed to open up an entirely new world of creative opportunities, thanks to its super wide 11-24mm focal range.
